Fresh Strawberry Daiquiri

Adapted from Market-Fresh Mixology by Bridge Albert
Makes one cocktail

The Daiquiri’s main ingredients are rum, lime juice and sugar.  The cocktail was invented in 1905 at the Venus Bar in Santiago, Cuba by Jennings Cox, an American mining engineer for the Spanish American Iron Company.  It was a favorite of John F. Kennedy and Ernest Hemingway, who popularized the Daiquiri in the United States.  This daiquiri recipe is delicious, especially with our amazing strawberries! Rimming the glass with sugar is optional.

2 to 3 sliced strawberries
½ oz orange liqueur (optional)
1-1/2 ounces rum
1 small spoonful of superfine sugar
Juice of half a lime
Whole strawberry (for garnish)

Rim ingredients:
Superfine sugar
Lime wedge

To rim your glass:  Measure sugar onto a plate.  Rim the outside top of the glass with the lime wedge and roll the outside lip of the glass in sugar.  Set aside.

In a mixing glass or a cocktail shaker, muddle the strawberry slices with the orange liqueur.  Add rum, sugar and lime juice.  Add ice and shake well.  Strain into sugar-rimmed glasses, garnish with a whole strawberry and serve immediately.
